5 Indoor Activities That Help Keep Your Mind Sharp

5-indoor-activities-that-help-keep-your-mind-sharp

Have you forgotten where you put your keys lately? Well, you’re not the only one who has experienced instances like that. Many older adults (and even working adults) are guilty of that too!

As we grow older, it becomes more and more of a challenge to keep our minds sharp. But that doesn’t mean there’s nothing we can do about it.

Here are five different activities you can do at home (Or anywhere, really!) to help keep your brain powered up:

  1. Reading books
You can use other reading materials like magazines, newspapers, or online articles too! Reading, in general, allows you to improve your vocabulary and language skills. On top of that, it also allows you to learn new information and expand your creativity.
Books and other reading materials come in all sorts of topics. All you have to do is pick one that piques your interest. Try asking your friends and family for recommendations!
  2. Trying games
All sorts of games help stimulate brain function – board games, card games, you name it. And yes, this even includes the ones your grandchildren play on consoles and hand-held devices! Just like books, games come in all sorts of genre too. Don’t be afraid to try out something new. Who knows, you might just enjoy it!
  3. Playing a musical instrument
When was the last time you had a chance to strum some strings or tickle the keys? If you used to play a musical instrument, then it’s time for you to get back at it. Different sections of your brain fire up when you listen to music, let alone play it! Just think about it, playing again means you can dazzle your grandkids with the level of skill you have.
  4. Writing a journal
It doesn’t take much for you to start a journal. You can just use a blank notebook and a pen, then you can whisk away your thoughts on paper. Writing a journal does not only stimulate brain activity, but it also allows you to express yourself and relieve feelings of stress at the same time. How about giving it a try?
  5. Doing art
If your grandkids are still small, this is one activity you can bond with. Joint them for a finger painting session to spark your mental prowess. Not only will you get to sharpen your mind, but you will also get to form a closer bond with your family members as well!
