Losing weight can be a real challenge for many people especially if you’ve reached the senior season. However, there’s always a way to achieve this health goal. When it comes to weight issues, the prominent connection to gaining or losing it will be food. To lose one’s weight the healthy way, we also have to be mindful of the food we eat, whether it’s a full meal or something in between.

In our Private Care Home in Texas, we always see to it that our residents are served with healthy foods including their snack time. If you’re looking for recommendations on healthy snack items so your loved one can lose weight safely, here’s a quick list for you:

  • Grapefruit

    Also known as a ruby fruit, grapefruit is very rich in vitamin C, along with fiber, to help increase the body’s immune system. Aside from that, grapefruit lowers a person’s insulin level, which results in a reduction of their appetite.

  • Grapes

    One of the snack favorites convertible to juice, grapes are also sweet and savory. Because of this, you will enjoy munching on this fruit as a healthy alternative for other sweets and treats, which can potentially increase one’s sugar level and weight. When the seniors residing in our Country Cottages have sweet tooth, we mostly recommend grapes on the table.

  • Almond (or any type of nut)

    As a prominent snack option, nuts are in fact helpful for weight loss goals. These protein-rich foods are also high in fat but the good kind of fat. These good fats will help flush out the bad fats (typically from animal-based diet) that have been accumulated in the body. Almonds are also rich in fiber for better digestion, thus, improving the weight loss process.

  • Popcorn

    This may be challenging to some seniors who have dental issues, but in general, popcorn is a great option if one wants to lose weight the healthy way. Since popcorn is also a whole grain, it contains fiber and protein that can improve the efficiency of one’s digestion.

  • Yogurt

    The good thing about snacks is that it can be used to fill the nutritional gaps in a person. Yogurt is a very healthy snack as it can also supplement for calcium and fiber, which are very important for one’s overall health. With fiber and probiotics, proper digestion is improved, giving way for better health.
